BEST MOTORCYCLE ROAD IN CROATIA: THE ADRIATIC COAST

Riding in Croatia was a motorcyclist's dream. I did not have any expectations arriving in the country, so I was came in with an open mind. Riding the Adriatic Coastal Road is hands down my favorite road I've ridden in Croatia. It hugs the Croatian coastline for almost 400 miles/ 643 kilometers and you have full views of the Adriatic Sea. There are ships and vessels out fishing as well.

The Scenic Beauty: What to Expect

When riding this road, there are beautiful views of the mountain ranges with houses on one side, and the vast sea on the other. The road is buttery smooth, has gentle curves, sometimes big sweeping ones and the occasional tight turn, but nothing to sweat over. It's great for any rider of any level and not technical at all. This is a road you can never get tired of. There are also lots of restaurants and hotels along the way.

Best Time to Ride: Avoiding the Crowds

While the Adriatic Coast is beautiful year round, I recommend avoiding riding during the summer months where tourists overcrowd the area. It's only a two lane road and was told the road gets very busy in the summer and there is a lot of congestion. If you're not a fan of crowds and traffic, the spring and fall months are a great time to visit where the coast is less crowded. I rode the Adriatic Coast during the winter, so while the roads were empty, I got rained on. Sometimes there is so much rain, the streets flood, so be careful if you decide to ride during the winter.

Recommended Route: From Rijeka to Dubrovnik

I recommend riding the entire length of the coast from north to south. I started in Rijecka and hugged the coastline all the way down to Dubrovnik. You don't need GPS and can't get lost. There are plenty of coastal towns with places to eat, drink and places to stay. I was so happy everyday I got to get on the road.

Why You Should Ride the Adriatic Coastal Road

The Adriatic Coast is the reason I fell in love with riding coastlines and this love is something that would guide a large part of my Europe tour.
